Hello! My name is Yijun Lai. I am currently pursuing my M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering. My current research focuses on topology and shape optimization of electric machines.

I received my B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and Automation at Chongqing University, China. Having studied computational science and engineering during my graduate studies, I also have experience in high-performance and parallel computing, and I am eager to apply advanced computational techniques to research in electric machines.

Outside of academics, I enjoy playing badminton and swimming, as well as strategy board games.

Seung Woo Ok, Graduate Student

Email: sok7 [at] gatech [dot] edu

My name is Seung Woo (William) Ok and I am a first year master’s student in EE specializing in electrical energy! I did my undergraduate at UIUC with a major in Engineering Mechanics. Prior to coming to Georgia Tech, I worked at Hinetics, which is a startup specializing in developing electric motors for airplanes. We were able to actually spin the world’s first fully-integrated, cryogen-free superconducting motor! With a mechanical background and slowly developing my electrical knowledge, I am interested in electric machines, power electronics, and motor control. In my spare time, I like to play badminton or do triathlons!

Hongyu Yan, Graduate Student

Email: hyan311 [at] gatech [dot] edu

I’m a master student in ECE with technical interests in power electronics and motor control. Before this, I received my Bachelor’s degree at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China—a place that fostered my passion for power electronics, motor control, and rock climbing. Yes, that’s my favourite thing to do apart from playing with electronics.

One of the greatest reasons for me to focusing on advanced power electronics and electric machines is that I believe they are the key enablers of next generation of transportation, and I also love cars and motorsports.

Fun fact about me: I only drive manual transmission cars
